Affordability

Cost of owning or renting a home should not exceed 30% of household income.

Accessibility

Recent data identifies less than 1% of available rental housing as accessible.

Stability

Housing security provides a stable environment for families in poverty.

Established as a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation in Corpus Christi, Texas in 2005, Accessible Housing Resources, Inc. provides affordable, accessible, decent housing for low income households. AHRI is also focused on serving individuals and households with a disability, and offers rental assistance for low-income individuals and families in Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend.

Since 2018, AHRI has supported households impacted by disaster, those with low-incomes and disabilities, and assisted individuals to transition out of homelessness. Thanks to HEART grant funding, AHRI provides case management for Hurricane Harvey displaced households, has built its organizational capacity and received technical assistance from Enterprise Communities, the grant administrator.

The National Low Income Housing Coalition in a 2020 infographic, depicts how hard it can be for individuals and families at lowest incomes to afford a place to live.

Advancing housing affordability, accessibility, and stability for those with the greatest need.

“It is hard to argue that housing is not a fundamental human need. Decent, affordable housing should be a basic right for everybody in this country. The reason is simple: without stable shelter, everything else falls apart.”
